Challenge

Several years ago, Will Fidler, President & CEO of RGA Enterprises, was facing a problem. He had both financial and operational data available to him but had no way to bring the data together in a meaningful way to derive insights that would help optimize RGA’s business performance.

Will had also decided that he wanted to implement the balanced scorecard methodology—a management system for improving corporate performance—at RGA. Knowing that the balanced scorecard would provide him with data-driven insights that could inform and mobilize his business, he sought a software solution that could be used to implement and manage a balanced scorecard.

He began researching balanced scorecard and dashboard solutions and discovered Spider Impact software to automate his balanced scorecard.

Solution

After completing a Spider Impact test drive and trial, Will decided to implement the balanced scorecard methodology and Spider Impact simultaneously. Spider Impact simplified the balanced scorecard build-out and has been used to automate and derive insights from it ever since.

According to Will, “I needed a solution to automate my balanced scorecard and create straightforward, meaningful reports that enabled me to make data-driven business decisions. In addition, I wanted the ability to cascade objectives, measures, and priorities throughout the organization to create business-wide alignment. Spider Impact does all of these things in an effective, comprehensive, and user-friendly way.”

Using the instructional videos on the Spider Strategies website and the Spider Impact Knowledge Base, Will was up-and-running with Spider Impact quickly—and with a fully automated balanced scorecard. Some metrics that RGA Enterprises currently tracks include overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), on-time delivery, quality/complaints, machine uptime, sales growth, and customer satisfaction and churn. Spider Impact has shown its effectiveness in identifying issues and improving business results.

Spider Impact helps RGA Enterprises spot issues and recognize trends faster, leading to improved decision-making and performance. It helps them focus on what is driving performance. For example, during the pandemic RGA Enterprises experienced heavy employee turnover and its overall efficiency dropped. Says Will, “We could make correlations between what that turnover did to our efficiency and, thus, all of the other measures in the balanced scorecard. We make sure we stay close and connected to all employees and track employee engagement.”

Spider Impact has also led to improved overall equipment effectiveness. In fact, since implementation, OEE is trending up over 16%. In addition, Spider Impact was able to provide insight that helped RGA Enterprises’ grow overall sales by 35% during the pandemic in 2020.
